Castdon

  • Intended use: Plastic for the manufacturing and repair of dentures
  • Indication: Usable for:
    • complete and partial dentures
    • completion of removable partial dentures
    • complete and partial relining
    • immediate dentures
    • upgrades and repairs
  • Contraindication: In the event of an allergy to one or more components. The intra-oral use of material which has not been hardened is contraindicated.
  • Notes
    • All denture materials based on MMA/PMMA always contain a permissible, small amount of residual monomer subsequent to manufacture (< 4.5 %). To further reduce the risk of incompatibility reactions, it is necessary for the denture to be placed in warm water for a few hours before insertion.
    • The polymerisation reaction of Castdon is exothermic, which means that it should only be carried out extra-orally.
    • The material must be hardened, skin contact with non-polymerised material and the inhalation of the monomer vapours is to be avoided.
  • Patient target group: Patients with a partially toothed or completely edentulous upper and/or lower jaw.
  • Intended users: Dentists, dental technicians or specialist staff in the dental laboratory
  • Requirements / equipment: Castdon Cuvette, Castdon dosing aids, Siliform or Gelon, Isolat film or FotoDent® insulant, pressure polymerisation device (e. g. Polymax), channel piercing tubes, spatula
  • Basic Material Properties: See technical datasheet (TDS). Technical datasheet available on request.
  • Specific Manufacturing Considerations:
    • Caution: During processing, we recommend wearing personal protective equipment, e. g. protective work clothing, suitable gloves and safety goggles. Use a suitable extraction system or face mask during finishing. The optimum processing temperature is 23 °C. Lower temperatures prolong the processing time; higher temperatures reduce it.
  • Process description:
    • Mixing ratio:
      • 10 parts by wt. Castdon polymer/7 parts by wt. Castdon monomer (for the casting process of a denture).
      • 10 parts by wt. Castdon polymer/4.5–5 parts by wt. Castdon monomer (when used as a repair/relining material and for the completion of removable partial dentures).
      • Do not combine polymer and monomer from different manufacturers.
    • Preparation:
      • Soak the plaster model in warm water, then dry the surface well and insulate in one layer with Isolat film. • Insulate 3D-printed acrylic models with FotoDent® insulant in 1–2 homogeneous layers.
      • For repairs/relining, the acrylic surface should be roughened, cleaned and wetted with Castdon Monomer before application.
      • For a better bond between Castdon and the other denture parts (such as denture teeth, removable partial dentures), roughen the contact surface and wetten with Castdon Monomer.
    • Further processing:
      • Mixing: 30 sec.
      • Casting capability: 2–3 min.
      • Monomer can be stored in the refrigerator.
      • Lower temperatures extend the casting phase.
      • Stable: after 5–7 min.
      • Due to the prolonged plastic phase, mould-capable for a particularly long time for removable partial denture technology.
    • Curing: Pressure polymerisation with 2–4 bar 15 min. at 45 °C water temperature
    • Finishing Recommendation: Polish or varnish the denture to smooth the surface. Plaquit and NanoVarnish are ideal for the varnishing.
  • Cleaning: Before the initial application on the patient, the base of the denture should be cleaned with denture cleaners recommended for acrylic dentures. The use of aggressive cleaning agents may damage the material and the surface. The prolonged contact of the denture with staining beverages (such as tea or coffee) may lead to the discolouration of the denture.
  • Disinfection: We recommend the use of a 0.2 % chlorhexidine solution or 0.5 % sodium hypochlorite solution with an exposure time of 5 minutes for disinfection, and then allow to dry completely.
  • Sterilization: Castdon cannot be sterilised.
  • Lot number / Expiry date: The batch number and the use-by date are located on both the outer packaging and the product. When submitting a complaint about a product, please always quote the batch number. Do not use the product after expiration of the use-by date.
  • Hazards identification: Hazard and safety notes can be found on the product label and the corresponding safety data sheet.
  • Disposal: Disposal of contents/container in accordance with local/regional/national/interna- tional regulations and according to the safety data sheet.
  • Serious incidents: All serious incidents occuring in relation to the product shall be reported to the manufacturer and to the competent authority of the Member State in which the user and/or patient is settled.
